HD Optimist Sailor Martin Wrigley

Martin why have you chosen HD Sails for your final years Optimist Campaign?

I have had my sails made by Andy Davis since 2006 when my grandad bought my first sail. After using it for a while my coach felt it was a bit too powerful and Andy suggested a flatter cut which I used at local regattas with great success. Over the last few years I have progressed through Zone squad, Intermediate Squad and National Squad with the sail recommended by Andy. Andy has been supportive throughout this period and he is a top level sailor himself. I know that my sail is made by someone as passionate about sailing as me. I have always been made very welcome at the loft and always had a personal message of support from the person who has made my sail when I have done well.

Shustoke Gauntlet

This weekend Andy is off to the Gauntlet, hopefully it won’t be frozen!!

Let’s hope it will be a good turn out and the weather doesn’t put people off. The forecast is saying it should be around 5 degrees and 6-10 knots of breeze.

Don’t forget your woolly hat!

Solo Winter Championships

A lot of people were put off by the forecast but 30 sailors ventured out at Grafham.

Our new Solo Kevlar Radial mainsail showed consistency at the front of the fleet, Andy Davis posted a 2nd in the first race, a 2nd in the second race and a 3rd in the last. Despite leading round the windward mark in the last race and being in a great position to take the championship it was not to be his day, a huge gust from behind had him swamped by other boats. Andy managed to get back to third and secure second overall.

A great debut for the HD Solo Mainsail.

Please call us on 0121 3562175 if you would like further information on our range of Solo sails.
